Die Fusion-Gruppe Sunbirds wurde 1971 von den damals schon bekannten Jazzern Klaus Weiss und Fritz Pauer in München gegründet. Dazu holten sie Ferdinand Povel, Jimmy Woode und den weltbekannten Gitarristen Philip Catherine. Der Name Sunbirds war ein Einfall von Fritz Pauer, ebenso die in E-Dur und E-Moll gehaltenen Stücke mit dem Namensbestandteil „sun“. Das E ist der sogenannte Sonnenton in der Esoterik. Dank ihrer guten Verbindungen bekamen sie schnell einen Vertrag beim damals neugegründeten BASF-Label. Die LP erschien noch im gleichen Jahr 1971 einfach als „Sunbirds“ (BASF 2021110-2). Die LP im originalen Klappcover stammt von den Mutterbändern und hat ein vierseitiges Insert im LP-Format.
Vorsicht übrigens: Das 2013 auf den Markt gekommene Remake der ersten Sunbirds-LP ist eine Fälschung.

The fusion group Sunbirds was founded by the jazz musicians Klaus Weiss and Fritz Pauer in Munich in 1971, when the two of them had already made a name for themselves. They got Ferdinand Povel, Jimmy Woode and the world-famous guitarist Philip Catherine to join them. The band name Sunbirds was Fritz Pauer’s idea, as well as the songs in E major and E minor, carrying titles including the word “sun”. E is the sound representing the sun in esotericism. Due to their good connections, they could soon sign a contract with the then newly-founded BASF label. The LP was released in that same year of 1971, simply under the name of “Sunbirds” (BASF 2021110-2). The reissue LP in the original gatefold cover was taken from the master tapes and comes with a four-page insert in LP size.6-page insert in LP size.
